We look forward to welcoming you to Hawaii, USA for the SIOP 2024 Congress!

 

The PPO Steering Committee and our Education Day sub-committee have put together an exciting program for our Education Day and PPO sessions on the main program.

Notable highlights include the PPO Educational Day on Thursday 17th October which includes a number of panel/symposium sessions discussing:

 

  • Approaches to improving sleep and circadian rhythm in inpatient settings, with presentations by Dr Valerie Crabtree (St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, USA) and Dr Eric Zhou (Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, USA);
  • Measuring outcomes and health-related quality of life in context of paediatric HSC and CAR T cell therapies, with presentations by Dr Allison Leahy (Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, USA) and Dr Galen Switzer (University of Pittsburgh, USA), concluding with a discussion led by A/Prof Maria McCarthy (Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, Australia);
  • Bereavement in Pan Asian / American communities, with Dr Chong Lee Ai (University Malaya Medical Centre, Malaysia) presenting on parent-focused bereavement care in Malaysia, Gabby Gouveia (Let Grace In, USA) discussing grieving with Aloha, and Dr Lori Wiener (National Cancer Institute, USA) discussing saying good-bye as a child’s end of life nears;
  • An early career research session with presenters from the Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland, USA and Canada presenting their psychosocial research, of which one presenter will be awarded the Dr Victoria Willard Early Career Research Prize!

 

We are also delighted to announce the PPO social networking event which will be held onsite on Thursday 17th October at 17:15-18:30, immediately following the conclusion of the PPO Education Day. This event is open and we warmly invite all PPO Network members who will be onsite to join us for conversation, food and beverages together with PPO colleagues from around the world.

The main program will feature a Keynote lecture by Dr Matthew Hocking (Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, USA) entitled “Social functioning in paediatric brain tumour survivors: The forgotten late effect” on Sunday 20th October at 16:20-16:50 in 316AB Hall.

 

On Friday 18th October there is a Symposium discussing the psychosocial, health system and ethical considerations of paediatric precision medicine at 13:30-15:00 in 313ABC Hall.  There will also be a Pediatric Psycho-Oncology Poster-side discussion session during Poster Happy Hour  starting at 18:10, with poster discussants  Leandra Dejardins & Christopher Recklitis.

 

There are also three Free Paper Sessions – one on Saturday 19th October (10:50-12:20 in 317AB Hall), and two on Sunday 20th October (one at 8:15-8:30 in 312 Hall, and one at 15:00-16:00 in 315 Hall).
