Art Exhibition “Heroes: A world without childhood cancer” – Free of charge

Time: 10:00 – 17:00 daily

Venue: De Hallen, Hannie Dankbaarpassage 47, 1053 RT Amsterdam

About:

An exhibition on childhood cancer worldwide will be held at De Hallen from October 16 until November 15, 2025

Heroes: A world without childhood cancer

Her Majesty Queen Máxima will open the exhibition on October 15. Ten children with cancer drew their heroes, who have superpowers to achieve a world without childhood cancer. Professional illustrators turned these drawings into life-size movie posters. The posters are part of an exhibition showcasing the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology’s international efforts to reduce inequality in childhood cancer survival rates. ‘Heroes: A world without childhood cancer’ will be on display at De Hallen in Amsterdam from October 16 to November 16.

Some of the superheroes drawn by children with cancer from the Netherlands, Indonesia, Suriname, Kenya, and Armenia are Super Teddy, Superfluf, Super Doctor, and Wonder Woman. These superheroes have unique powers to help eradicate childhood cancer. The children’s drawings and their creators will be displayed on large banners in De Passage of De Hallen.

Better chances of survival

The De Hallen exhibition also illustrates the 80/20 paradox of childhood cancer survival rates worldwide. In low- and middle-income countries, where 80% of children with cancer reside, the survival rate is only 20%. In high-income countries, however, the opposite is true. Despite this inequality, pediatric oncology professionals around the world are working to improve survival rates.

The Heroes Exhibition is therefore being held during the SIOP World Congress from October 20 to 23, where more than 3,500 pediatric oncology professionals will gather at the RAI in Amsterdam to share the latest insights. International cooperation and knowledge exchange are essential because each type of childhood cancer is rare.
